Kemal Tufan

Kemal Tufan was born in Silivri, Istanbul in 1962. 

He graduated from Industrial Engineering Department of the Technical University of Istanbul in 1985 and Sculpture Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Art University of Istanbul in 1994. 

He worked as a choreographer at the City Theatre of the Municipality of Istanbul and
was a choreographer, stage designer, actor, and dancer with various theatre and, modern dance companies, as well as Turkish folk dance groups between 1989 and 1991. 

Tufan participated in exhibitions, international symposiums, biennials, and conferences, creating large outdoor sculptures in
Turkey, Finland, Romania, Holland, Belgium, Japan, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, Scotland, Egypt, Bahrain, Israel, Serbia, Mexico, Portugal, Taiwan, Indonesia, China, Argentina, Chile,
South Korea, Brazil, India, Morocco, Greece, France, Spain, The United States of America and Australia... 

He has been the curator of the International Buyukcekmece Sculpture Symposiums (Istanbul / Turkey) between 2002-2014.
Curator of the Yesemek Biennial in Southern Turkey (Gaziantep) between 2005-2007. Curator of Koru ‘Young Sculpture’ Symposium, Yalova, Turkey in 2015.
Curator of Bento Goncalves International Sculpture Symposium in Brasil in 2016.
Curator of Besiktas International Sculpture Symposium, Istanbul Turkey in 2016 and 2017. Curator of Puerta Vallarta International Sculptors Forum in Mexico in 2017 and 2018. Curator of Contemporary Art in Historical Halic Shipyard Istanbul Turkey in 2020. 

In addition to sculpture, Tufan also works in interdisciplinary art such as videos, art performances and installations... 

Kemal Tufan has been an adjunct professor at the Marmara University , Fine Art Faculty, Sculpture Department since 2005.
